OK I am on 14.10 but as I said I get x86-64. Did you possibly somehow
try to upgrade from 32 to 64-bit without total reinstall? Because as far
as I know that is not possible. You have to reinstall from scratch.

The only other thing I can think of is PAE kernel and then you should
use the 32-bit version.
