We might need a more specific example of what you are seeing, but yes
amd64=x86_64=64 bit. Perhaps gdebi is being wonky, or the particular package
being installed is. if it is complaining that amd64 is the wrong arch, then it
thinks you have a non-64 bit system for some reason.
