Sorry, I can't tell you the reason either, but of course there should be 
a file initrd.img-3.13.0-44-generic. To correct the problem, you can run 
the command

sudo update-initramfs -c -k 3.13.0-44-generic

in a terminal (konsole). Usually that command is run by the installer 
automatically, so probably something went wrong when you installed the 
new kernel.
