Cannot change printer settings without root access

I've now done the following:

Executed:

$ sudo chown -R <username>:<username> <username>

and

$ sudo usermod -G lpadmin <username>

Neither of these seemed to work.

I've logged in to the CUPS administration screen via localhost:631, but I'm
not sure what I'm doing there.
