external HDD with corrupted partition table

Hi all,
I'm running kernel 3.16, on Kubuntu 14.10. I've a 2TB external hdd,
and after havin replaced the external case with another identical
(Hamlet HXD3CCUU) my hard disk is no more showing up in the device
list.
After a little analysis I found that the partition table seems to be
totally missing, and while I'm sure the disk has a single MBR
partition for the entire size, parted shows:

Model: ST2000DM 001-1CH164 (scsi)
Disk /dev/sdc: 2000GB
Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B
Partition Table: msdos
Disk Flags:

Number Start End Size Type File system Flags
 1 131kB 236GB 236GB primary

So it seems the whole partition has been resized.
I suspect there is some sligthly difference between the two
controllers of the cases that causes the problem, but how can I fix it
without loosing data? I have backups, but I've also some live data I
would not loose!
What if I resize the 1 partition to the very end of the disk?
Any suggestion and/or explaination?

Thanks,
Luca
