Accent with Firefox and Thunderbird

Do you have a Compose key set up? (I assume you can do that in 
Kubuntu.)  I just tried inputting Zürich into the Google box in Firefox, 
and it worked fine. And I'm writing in
Thunderbird. Let's see--I don't know a word tha tuses a cap on the "a" 
but the French hôtel has the cap, and there it is.
