That says the Nvidia driver was found, and yet the VESA driver is still being
used.

You may have installed the wrong Nvidia package. Which did you install? The
log seems to say you have 311 but need 304.

Is it possible your installation is incomplete? According to
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia you need to do
'sudo nvidia-xconfig' in a terminal and then restart.

It might be useful for troubleshooting to eliminate the following from the
kernel cmdline in Grub:

	splash quiet

You should pastebin also /etc/X11/xorg.conf and the latest Xorg.0.log on your
next reply here.
