Minimal Installs with CD-ROM

Friends,

I would like to install Kubuntu on an ancient desktop which has a
CD-ROM drive (Not DVD).

Has this been attempted?  I might have to install Lubuntu due to
memory and CPU constraints, but
specifically I'd like to know the procedure for this kind of install.

Thanks for your help - I really enjoy this list!
