Thunderbird for Mint

It's possible Mint doesn't have Thunderbird in its repositories,
although I could have sworn Mint uses the Ubuntu repositories. Do you
have all the updates Mint suggests you should install?

Apparently you don't use sudo in Mint. Try this instead:

apt-get install thunderbird

What happens when you type this in a terminal window and press the
enter key?

This is displayed when I type that command in Kubuntu:

The program 'thunderbird' is currently not installed.  You can
install it by typing: sudo apt-get install thunderbird

You would get a different message since your operating system doesn't
use sudo, but it might display a helpful message. (:
