dolphin question

I keep a terminal open on the bottom (F4), which I find really handy. 
But when Dolphin starts cold, that terminal doesn't recognize my command 
prompt customizations from .bashrc (colors and so forth). If I close and 
re-open the terminal by hitting F4 twice, I'm good again.

Why is that? Can I make him read the prompt customizations all the time?
