Thank you your suggestions,

The "We are sorry" that I was referring to is not an error message but 
the first line in a dialogue (dialog) box that allows the user to post 
the fault condition to Mozilla.

I have removed all add-ons and the only tab open is the default Ubuntu 
search page. Any open tab will cause Firefox to crash, not just the 
Ubuntu page.

The Mozilla "diagnose faults" page didn't provide any enlightenment, 
however I will press on and see what I can discover.
