kmail wrong address when answering

I'm not sure I understood correctly your problem.
Is the sender's address being replaced by your address when your wife sends
an email? Isn't that the reason why the replies go to your address and not
to hers?
Try sending an e-mail from her address to yours and check the headers in
the message you will get (not in the copy which is copied to the sent box).
Is the sender's address yours or hers?
Some SMTP servers do not allow you to send messages from a user different
from the one you use to authenticate. When you try to do that, the sender's
address is replaced by the one used to authenticate with the SMTP server.
If this is the problem, you will need to setup another outgoing mail server
for your wife which uses her address to authenticate with the SMTP server
and then configure her identity to use that outgoing server when sending
mails instead of using the server you configured for your account. This is
not a bug in Kmail, it is a security procedure put in place by some
providers to avoid identity theft. Also, Gmail allows you to create a list
of addresses that are allowed to be used as senders for a given account.
They validate your rights to use those addresses by sending them a
confirmation e-mail before allowing you to use them as senders while
authenticating with your account. If you register your wife's address as an
authorized sender in your gmail acount, then it will not be necessary to
setup a different outgoing mail server for her.
