There used to be a service-plugin for using Kfind from Dolphin but it
seems to have gone missing. Perhaps first of all install kfind and
experiment a bit?

Otherwise there is the recoll alternative if you can not get Baloo to
work (assuming you are on KDE 4.13.x)

IF you have baloo and it is not working search around for how to force
a manual reindexing. For me it works very well but I had to do a
forced reindexing to get it in "good shape"
