Urgent advise needed. Only guest profile accesible, my own profile not.

Until a few versions ago, I would have troubleshooted via a terminal that I
could open as superuser in the startup menu. But now, - Kubuntu 13.04- I do
not see this terminal any more. At the laptop, there is just Kubuntu 13.04,
not any other system.
