Hi
I have an Epson Photo 1260 scanner and it seems to have "run out of 
drivers" since moving to Kubuntu 13.04. I now use 13.10 with the same 
problem. Kubuntu doesn't recognize the scanner. Up to 12/10 the scanner 
worked fine. The scanner is ok as it works with Windows 7. Just does't 
work with Kubuntu 13.xx.
I don't know if this contributed to your question but that's my experience.
