Well, I never noticed before, that there is a different screen 
available, but now I made some tests with Kubuntu 13.04 in a VM. If the 
package "plymouth-theme-kubuntu-logo" is installed, there is a Kubuntu 
logo at boot / shutdown. If only "plymouth-theme-kubuntu-text" is 
installed, there is the above mentioned text screen. So I think, the 
package "plymouth-theme-kubuntu-logo" is missing.
