When added to KDE panel (KDE menu, search Midnight, Add to panel) mc
starts just fine. Here are essential entries form the corresponding
mc.desktop file:

Name=Midnight Commander
Exec=mc
Icon=MidnightCommander
Terminal=true
Type=Application

P.S. In Thunderbird, when holding Shift while clicking Reply or Write
will toggle the composition mode from HTML to text and vice versa
(depending on what's your default composition setting for that account).
