Is this what you meant?
phil at Asus:~$ ps
PID TTY TIME CMD
1968 pts/6 00:00:01 bash
25818 pts/6 00:00:00 ps
I don't think cron is running or is not available for user phil.
I have a very simple test shell script that does run from the command line.
