Hi,
The open-source AMD driver was not fully compatible with my Radeon HD
7800 card.
The two AMD drivers that Kubuntu 13.04 offers were not compatible either.
I downloaded and installed the current beta proprietary AMD Linux
display driver and all is OK.
(my Valve Steam games for Windows work great now using current WINE)
With AMD beta driver, the pretty boot/shutdown screens are working.
Thanks!
Jesse
