Had the problem with no tools, edit, preferences, and so on
with FF18 in Windows.  when the Java problem came to light, I had to
remove FF altogether, since I could not get to any setup. The FF
folks have really screwed up!
Also had the https problem but that was over a year ago, and I don't
remember how I got it fixed.  Google time.  But if you can't get to any
of the menus, I don't think you'll be able to fix it.
