I fixed a similar issue by going to the preferences ==> advanced ==> 
general and then select Config Editor.
Search for "network.protocol"

Switch (double-click) from 'false' to 'true':

network.protocol-handler.warn-external.ftp
network.protocol-handler.warn-external.http
network.protocol-handler.warn-external.https

This can be be reversed easily. Good luck.
