My guess is the limited partition program that is part of the installer application didn't show the details. I know for certain that if you use fdisk, sfdisk, or cfdisk directly that they will do exactly that - which is why I was aware of it. Because i ran fsck for disk check.  > Again, no. FSCK checks and corrects integrity of the file system. It has nothing to do  with the actual partitions and their placements at creation. All the "free Space" lines mean is that the Parition Program decided to offset the partition by that amount when placing the partition, typically for improved performance by matching cylinder/head/sector boundaries. This is entirely normal, but will certainly change from disk to disk. I usually have extra space at the end of the disk for that reason; it's odd to see it at the start - which could mean the disk firmware detected some bad sectors in the first cylinder/head - but it is still entirely normal, and _nothing_ you do after creating the partition will affect these numbers aside from going back and making new partitions. All-in-all, unless you start seeing some rather poor performance from the disk, disk space shrinking dramatically, etc - it should be nothing to be worried about. These partitions were created during kubuntu installing. Using "automatic mode" usually creates a swap.  Swapon or off just activate or no the using of swap partition as swap. don't using it don't means it will be deleted, just unnused I never delete partitions after system is working. If the space lost isn't big, use swapon and let the partition "be happy" -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Since it was a virtualbox I completed the installation to see if the old windows files would exist, but they did not! My second try was with my laptop and I am using Windows 7 on my another laptop. I chose install from ubiquity and went to the disk configuration page... Now there was a slider to adjust the disk usage by Kubuntu, but it did not show the name of Windows 7 and even I had another operating system. If the disk is completely formatted by Windows, wouldnt ubiquity show any options to install side by side? I think this is very hard for new users to understand and very easy to lose their data. A screen where everything you see is vibrant, detailed, and sharp. With the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, we created the world’s highest-resolution notebook display. The only thing that even comes close? The supercompact 13-inch model. They’re two of a kind. And in a class all their own. Multimillion-pixel view. When you pack so many pixels into a display — over 4 million on the 13-inch model and over 5 million on the 15-inch model — the results are positively stunning. The pixel density is so high, your eyes can’t discern individual pixels. Images take on a new level of realism. Text is pin sharp. A spectacular 2560-by-1600 resolution on the 13-inch MacBook Pro and an equally impressive 2880-by-1800 resolution on the 15-inch MacBook Pro let you see more of your high-resolution images with pixel-for-pixel accuracy. More color and contrast. Less glare. The Retina display reduces glare up to 75 percent while maintaining incredible color and quality. In fact, it has a 29 percent higher contrast ratio than a standard MacBook Pro display. Blacks are blacker. Whites are whiter. And everything in between is rich and vibrant. IPS technology gives you a wide, 178-degree view of everything on the screen, so you’ll see the difference at practically any angle. Go to Add Widgets and Download More Widgets (or whatever it's called) and type in 'Py' - download it and install it like any normal widget. And the cashew is gone! If in System Settings>Workspace Behaviour>Virtual Desktops you have set Different widgets for each desktop then you will need to add this Py Cashew widget to each desktop to get rid of the cashew on each virtual desktop. I turned off the screensaver for now. I also reinstalled the viruoso-nempomuc thing and so far it is doing its indexing without making my system unusable. Other experiences/tips from KDE 4.10 install? I use the slideshow screensaver and it is running without issues, except that now I'm forced to type in my password to unlock the screen every time the screensaver runs. The screen is always locked, no matter if the "Require password" checkbox is checked or not. Also, X or kdm (haven't been able to find out which one for certain) is dying occasionally for no reason after the upgrade, sending me back to the login screen and killing every app I was working with. This has happened four times since I upgraded yesterday, the last three times in a 60 minutes time frame. On the other hand, KMail seems faster and some of its bugs that have annoyed me for a long time are gone. I also liked the new QtQuick notifications. I'm running 4.10 on Kubuntu 12.04. For now, that's it. []'s Marcelo From mmtsales at gmail.com Thu Feb 7 23:41:35 2013 From: mmtsales at gmail.com (Marcelo Magno T. For now, that's it. There's one more thing I forgot to mention - plasma has crashed a few times since the upgrade. I didn't have this problem nor the above mentioned X/kdm restarts before the upgrade. Members of the council are expected to be active in Kubuntu. The Kubuntu Council has three primary roles: - Approve development plans for future Kubuntu releases - Approve Kubuntu membership applications - Resolve disputes within the Kubuntu project The time commitment is not large. Meetings are generally only once every several months and conducted via IRC. Questions: If there are questions, you can contact me (preferably) via this mailing list or (if really necessary) via direct mail. Scott K For the Kubuntu Council From phil_lor at bigpond.com Thu Feb 28 07:13:04 2013 From: phil_lor at bigpond.com (Phil) Date: Thu, 28 Feb 2013 17:13:04 +1000 Subject: System tray colour Message-ID: <512F0380.3070603@bigpond.com> Thank you for reading this. The system tray used to be a light colour but a few weeks ago I noticed that it had changed to a grey colour. This makes the minimised application icons a little difficult to see. I cannot see a setting to change the colour, can anyone offer a suggestion? -- Regards, Phil From kaj at haulrich.net Thu Feb 28 07:52:17 2013 From: kaj at haulrich.net (Kaj Haulrich) Date: Thu, 28 Feb 2013 08:52:17 +0100 Subject: System tray colour In-Reply-To: <512F0380.3070603@bigpond.com> References: <512F0380.3070603@bigpond.com> Message-ID: <512F0CB1.8070904@haulrich.net> On 28-02-2013 08:13, Phil wrote: > Thank you for reading this. > > The system tray used to be a light colour but a few weeks ago I noticed > that it had changed to a grey colour. System Settings --> Workspace Appearance --> Desktop Theme --> Oxygen which will give you a darker system tray. "Air for netbooks" got the desktop back to looking like it used to. -- Regards, Phil
