Hey Paul, I'm typing to you on a computer which has Kubuntu on the
SSD, and Windows and my /home on the HD. So Kubuntu plays just fine
with SSDs, and with Windows. The tricky part is identifying which
partitions are where, so that grub properly sees everything. I'll have
to admit I hosed that up when I last did a clean install, so I took it
over to my son's house to watch while he did yet another clean
install. He said that was easier than messing with grub!

So I can offer you no step-by-step, but it is definitely possible to
do as you want.
