To check the status: sudo apt-get install akonadiconsole then start akonadiconsole (its a gui app) and check the "Akonadi Nepomuk Feeder". I suspect it will show either "Waiting for Nepomuk to start" or "Nepomuk not operational: Nepomuk is not running". Both statuses are a furphy, nepomuk is running but sometimes the feeder has a problem detecting this on startup. Restart the feeder to get it working (right click, Restart Agent). There is way to make KMail look in all Nepmuk data instead of where it is so to speak supposed to (explanation way to techie for me, maybe Lindsay can explain it). In folder HOME/.kde/share/config there is a file "kpimcompletionorder". Add these 2 lines: [General] UseNepomuk=true restart KMail and presto, completion works (you get more suggestions than before) and so does Groups Whatever you do - do not set the value to "false", even Dolphin stopped working for unknown reasons As I said: this is a workaround, it is NOT how it is supposed to work and I will be most happy if someone can find a "proper" solution. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.11 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with undefined - http://www.enigmail.net/ iEYEARECAAYFAlFhO9IACgkQdVb2AWQj/7Yp/ACfek5ryw5GKKUJ7vUCFow4jBmD C1UAniCx/y717HM7cGzizwEMU6R2jEkY =BO4F -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- From valtermura at gmail.com Sun Apr 7 09:37:05 2013 From: valtermura at gmail.com (Valter Mura) Date: Sun, 07 Apr 2013 11:37:05 +0200 Subject: address autocompletion gone missing in 4.10.2 - workaround found! I point is that the problem is not with linux or KDE but with Kubuntu. I don't know what the answer is though. We have - HP Pavilion 6618 eo (Serial numbe, CNF7455M93, product number KA039EA) and - ASUS EEE PC 1000H Black 10" WXGA We regularly update to newer stable versions. We do'nt find WIFI or the relevant drives and therefore cannot connect to the net away from home or check our home wifi. Lacking the right proprietary drives, we have installed the recommendations from Medibuntu. It would not be nice to have to reinstall Microsoft, which both were installed when bought our laptops, or have to by new gadgets just for travelling. Both work excellent with cables. Especially in China, where they only have cable connection at least between Chingqong and Shanghai, a Yangtze river cruise included. However we can assume it is NOT Intel that normally works "out of the box" with Kubuntu. I would try running the "additional drivers" found in the app menu under "System" headline. Be connected with a cable to internet while doing so and chances are good that a driver is found and installed. For the Asus EEE 1000 I have installed Kubuntu with no problems regarding wireless but try the above method. If that does not work try www.kubuntuforums.net and see if anyone there has information. Or for that matter www.ubuntuforums.org where I think there is a special forum for Asus EEE netbooks. Thank you. > > Yours > Christer Wickman It is very hard to use the drivers off the Nvidia site because the 'nv' modules that are distributed with kubuntu get the control. I HAVE replaced 'nv' with the drivers but to do so, I had to re-build the inintramfs creation files to remove 'nv' from them and then rebuild the initram that resides on /boot/. In addition, having done the above, I now have to rebuild the NVIDIA modules every time the kernel changes. Not a big deal but an extra step you may not want to do. Here are my notes from the process: ========================================================= 41) NVIDIA!!! To remove nouveau, had to rename the /lib/modules/3.5.0-18-generic/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau/ directory to something else to remove it. Then do a mkinitramfs -o Hi, First there is not a suitable NVIDIA X DRIVER for GT240 nvidia card Edit nvidia-xconfig as root as there is a bogus xcofig file there After doing this I worked around crappy Nvidia driver by editing /etc/X11/ xorg.config and putting in my monitors Horiz Sync and vert ref parameters. So anyone using Nvidia cards even a few years old is now a pariah in Linux thanks to Nvidia this will flow onto other OS's too. The nv (nouveua) driver comes with other distros and not just Kubuntu. As you know, Bill, I use another distro, and in the past day I have read posts from ex-Kubuntu users who have moved over to the distro which I am using. Please do not take this as the beginning of any stupid childish crap fight like "my * is bigger than your *" but there ARE other distros out there which use KDE, and while I do not know what the others are like I *do* know that with the distro I am using I don't have to go thru hoops and and crawl thru the eye of a needle to be able to either upgrade to a latest kernel, or to the latest nVidia driver, or to latest version of KDE, or latest LibreOffice, or latest anything. For example, a couple of days ago my kernel was upgraded to 3.8.7-1 and as a result I had to recompile the latest nVidia driver, 310.44, to match it. It took me all of some 3 minutes to be up and running again with the recompiled driver. As I said, there are other distros around which may be just as less of a pain in the arse to get things done. And all I am suggesting here is to have a look and see which ones provide you with the freedom to do what you want to do and make it easy for you to do what you want to achieve. Linux is supposed to provide the user with choice and flexibility of use. If you cannot install the latest nVidia driver without first flagellating oneself while dressed in sackcloth, when there is no need for it, then it is time to try out an alternate distro. Nobody is suggesting a change of the DE - KDE is KDE wherever it may be. When I was playing with the latest driver from the nvidia site it offered to register with dkms which would mean that you don't have to manually recompile the nvidia module but it is done automatically when you install a new kernel. Normally, it takes a couple of weeks for this machine to get dodgy because its 500+ megs into swap, so my normal reboot period is 2 to 3 weeks. I rebooted late yesterday & didn't do anything worse than a little solitaire after that, went to bed. By the time I get up, the machine is extremely unresponsive with the update-managers screen sitting on top of kmail. No response to clicking on any buttons. Click on the workspace where I keep a terminal running, and start htop. In 7 hours of uptime I am 469 megs into swap! Back to the kmail workspace, click on the install button quite a few times, and it finally wakes up and does this mornings updates. Then I reboot. And I haven't started about 5 more 'tails' I usually have running, but on a machine with 4Gb of dram, at 1h:36m into this new reboot, I am already 1 megabyte into swap, something that normally takes 3 or 4 days. Anybody have any clues as to what the update-manager has installed on 10.04-4 LTS in the last 2-3 days that has a huge leak? Full powerdown reboot, coming right up, but this is to get rid of virtuoso- t, whatever the hell that is. Thanks for any solution to this. While I have no idea what update was installed lately on your machine, I would suggest to disable swap. Unless you want to hibernate the machine, it shouldn't be really necessary with 4GB of RAM. Furthermore you could try to find out which application is using all your RAM. I'm not sure, but something like htop -s PERCENT_MEM could be a start to find the culprit. My guess would be flash. > Full powerdown reboot, coming right up, but this is to get rid of > virtuoso- t, whatever the hell that is. Sorry, but you can't put enough lipstick on that to make it kissable. Not to mention I was getting, and haven't noticed any since restarting without it, desktop freezes of over a minutes duration, with zip use showing on any core by gkrellm but its display march wasn't marching. And while I could switch workspaces to see what htop said, its display was frozen. Eventually it would get a word in edgewise and the uptime display would jump a minute or more. ATM, clamscan is doing its 2x a day thing, and the desktop is 100% responsive. If virtuoso-t is indeed the culprit, it needs to be taught to play nice. I have one other app, a .jar that isn't visible to the outside world, that I haven't restarted since this boot, so not everything is knocked out of the usual culprits list by this boot. I know that once booted, I can as root do a swapoff -a, but How does one disable swap, I have 3 drives with 4Gb of swap on each and it finds and uses all 12Gb of if I'd let it. It's the image we might release if it tests out well. There is no "Release Candidate" release and has not been for several years (we renamed what used to be called release candidate to beta2 because it was in no sense a release candidate. My second question is about Google Chrome. I try to install on KUbuntu 13.04 Beta 2. But every time I try I get message that it doesn't meet with approval of the system. Why is it like that? Not sure what's wrong with whatever app is launching when you click on downloaded file, but you can open Terminal/Konsole, cd to where the downloaded .deb is try running "sudo dpkg -i ...", for example: sudo dpkg -i google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb You may end up with missing dependencies. Those red "fibres"do not show up any more. Other ways to check the spelling inside LibreOffice also do not work. For the time being, I use Kontact to check my spelling. However, I would prefer to find a solution inside LibreOffice. My question to you: does any one else experience this problem? If so, we need to file a bug report. Respectfully yours, Bas. -- drs.
