Is it saying it will remove gnome-desktop-environment?
That is just a meta-package that pulls in all the other packages that
are needed.  Removing it will not remove them, but it is silly that
cheese will remove it.

Synaptic will give you a chance to review what packages are being
removed, and you can still cancel if it being silly and removing
everything.  But since this is the Kubuntu mailing list, go ahead and
remove all of Gnome anyway. :p
