Thanks. I just had a good look through there, and nothing is configured to 
"Play a sound".. I just figured that that option is probably only for custom 
sounds, and has no effect on the default bell. Is that right?

I do have the "Show a message in a popup" option checked in a lot of places, 
but I don't mind pop-up notifications. It's only the bell that goes with it... 
I guess now that that is the problem. There seems to be no way of unbinding 
the bell from the pop-up notification. However, there is an option in "Player 
settings" to turn off all audio output, but that's overkill...
