There is a program called zdesktop which works on Linux (not Mint - yes on 
Ubuntu/Kubuntu 11.04 and 11.10 haven't tested it on more recent stuff).

Generally it's there as the desktop component to sync with a zimbra server.  
However, it works separately and doesn't need zimbra.  It will work with any 
number of external email sources (I use it with my clients for gmail, yahoo, 
1and1, earthlink) and it does work with both pop and imap.

It has contacts lists, calendars, etc.

You can download it for free from the zimbra web site.
