I must admit that I too have been having some problems since 11.10: programs simply stop responding for 10-30 seconds 12.04 has reduced that behaviour a little, but applications like kmail and firefox crash quite regularly. All in all, 12.04 seems to be a small improvement, but I do hope the stability improves rapidly. Kind regards, Pieter Hulshoff
