OH, DAMN! I hit the wrong button and sent the message when I really
meant to edit it! :-( .
Sorry about this :-( .
The legacy nVidia driver 173 is the correct one for the Geforce FX 5500
card.
I stopped writing in mid sentence because I have a 550Ti card for which
the latest drive is 295.59 and I wanted to make sure that what I was
saying was correct. I checked the nVidia website and realised that you
were talking about the FX5500 card and not one of the latest in the 500
series. I went to edit the message but hit the "send" button instead :-( .
Once again, apologies.

I have one more question: you mention that you are using Kubuntu 10.04,
which was released in April 2010, but you also state that you are using
Firefox 13.x. Kubuntu 10.04 came, as far as I can remember, with Firefox
v4. How have you managed to be now using FF v13?
I am asking because knowing such possibly trivial sounding details can
help in solving someone's problem.
