New kernel (.14) and window issues

Sounds like a video driver issue. I remember something similar from a long time ago. Try disabling desktop effects and if that cures it, try playing with the Advanced options for desktop effects to see if changing any of those makes the problem go away. I *think* the default setting might be to use Open GL V2 shaders, and that doesn't work very well for me.
