Urgently help needed to get back "Kontact".

I'm not sure I'll be able to be of much help but the first thing I'd do 
in a similar situation would be to try starting it from the terminal.

Also, do you remember what updates and/or programs you have installed 
lately? Any third party repos?

Regarding backing up and syncing your calendar, I'd recommend using 
Dropbox. You could then export the calendar to your Dropbox folder and 
that way always have it backed up as long as you're online.
