Optical drive wont eject

I've been wanting to ask for a long time but I very rarely use my optical
drive, so I haven't gotten around to it before I had to install on a "new"
box.
Since Maverick I've experienced that I can't eject my optical drive by pushing
the physical buttons, I have to use the 'eject' command. At first I thought it
had to do with faulty hw but now it's happening on another box too.
When I boot up in Windows XP (it came with the second hand box ;) it works OK
but as soon as I boot into Linux it doesn't; even at the grub menu.
dmesg has a lot of these entries in it:
[81078.265582] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 16

My question is basically under what package I should file a bug report -
linux-image or whatever?
I know I ought to ask in ubuntu-users but there's so much traffic and I
already have 2500+ unread msgs in there.

Dropbox and my thumb drive had an epic battle. Dropbox won.
