Networking keeps stopping

No DHCP is running.  I took a look at Network Connections under System
Settings.  Nothing is configured there.  What about KNetworkManager?
"ps -ef|grep net" indicates it is running.  Is that something I can
configure?  If I select it from the K menu, nothing happens.
