You did not mention what version of Kubuntu you are installing/have
installed. A quick google tells me that other people have had problems
with sound on that laptop.
Have you installed the proprietary drivers for your video card?
Somewhere in the menu there should be an item called Hardware drivers
(or similar).
To find out the exact name of your audio chip we can run the following
command in a terminal:
lspci | grep Audio
