What am I missing here?

I spent most of today downloading and installing Beta #1 of Kubuntu - a
few hassles but, hey, fine, it is a beta after all so no real problemo.
But at the beginning of the installation procedure I noticed that I got
the message:
Preparing to install Kubuntu.
For best results, please ensure that this computer:
is plugged in to a power source
(This was one of 3 "hints".)
Am I missing something here about this message?
If I don't have the computer plugged in to a power source I will get a
rotten result, but nevertheless the system will still work?
But if the computer is not plugged in to a power source, and that power
source is also not switched on, then I wouldn't be reading this helpful
hint, right?
Or is there another hidden meaning to this message which I have yet to
work out - I mean, I have only ever worked with desktops so is there
something about laptops to which message applies?
Thanks for any clarification.
