lost display

On my panel I only have some of the icons I usually had. Some of the 
crucial ones are missing. How do I return the panel to the original 
status? The icons still available are the launcher, quick access browser 
and the clock as well as several program icons I added myself. What is 
missing and used to be on the right side of the panel is the speaker 
volume control, the skype program icon (skype is started automatically 
when I boot), a dual language flag, the wicd icon for network and maybe 
one or two more I need less. In short, the whole of the "right side" of 
my panel bar has disappeared except for the clock which I added with a 
widget addon after the disappearance of the icons.I have browsed around 
"add widgets" and "system settings" without much success.
