Losing mouse pointer in non-Kubuntu KDE system

This is OT for Kubuntu, but you guys are into KDE, so I'll ask, because
I'm more likely to get a quick, usable response here. (Have tried the
PCLinuxOs forum with no answer.) This is PCLOS 2010.
The system runs KDE 4.4.5, I believe. Every so often, I wake the system
up and the mouse pointer is missing, and so far as I know, the mouse
is non-functional. I can get to a command line with ALT-F2. Is there
a command that will start the mouse back up, and if so, what is it?
(I have tried /etc/.rcsysinit, but it didn't do anything I could determine.)
Thanx. --doug
