Media view/read softwares

I am a new comer to the Linux field. I am using Kubuntu 10.10 in my net
book. I was using windows in my PC I had used win3.1 to winXP and tried
win7 also.
My favorite programs in their arena were Opera for browsing, Irfanview as
picture viewer-editor-mp3player. i like Xnview over irfanview in one
aspect only. That is it has got a file browser which allows multiple
renaming files and view pictures as per their filenames.
The fact that I never came to the Linux field earlier was because i was
not bold enough and Ubuntu/kubuntu was not available. Now that I feel I am
so late.

Amarok and Rhythmbox are more suitable for playing play lists. A single
file from a directory cannot be suitably played. The multiple renaming
facility available in Dolphin is limited than that of Thunar. Presently I
am satisfied with the combination of Krusader with KRename . Viewers for
pictures, players for audio/video/pdf are all different and not integrated
with filemanagers, I mean in the sense that separate programs should be
opened for each types/tasks.
A few questions anybody proficient may please answer.
1. Any simple mp3 player available which will play only the selected song?
2. Any Viewer software (just like Universal viewer, xnview, irfanview)
available, which can view/read different formats at the same
(audio/video/pic/txt//html/pdf),
3. Any combination of file manager with multiple format viewer pane
available
