I had this problem 6 months ago when I upgraded to 10.04.. After a while, it
mysteriously worked fine. Google for "[k]ubuntu flash sound problems" or
something like that.. You'll come across different types of fixes..
like
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=255422
http://mylinuxnotebook.blogspot.com/2008/11/ubuntu-810-flash-sound-problem.html
Also see if installing vlc and vlc mozilla plugin helps..
