10.10 desktop display problem

I did an in-place upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10. I have the Desktop settings set to Folderview, the location set to the Home directory and the filter set to show all files and folders, but there are no folders files or shortcuts visible on the Desktop. 


Same settings worked fine in 10.10. Anyone know what's wrong?
