I haven't dropped the computer.  It sits on the floor.

I think the hubs are internal to the machine as I connect both mouse and 
printer directly to the computer. I don't have any external hubs.

I don't know much about the internals of USB, but it does look as if the 
power is dropping.  Without the power, I assume the devices disappear.


I've finished downloading a torrent and now the mouse seems fine - no 
blackouts... curiouser and curiouser...
