Did you try

kdesudo hp-setup -i /dev/parport0

to find the parallel port printer? Other than that, if you still have a 
backup of the /etc/cups/ directory from a previous Kubuntu version where 
it worked, you could try with the files from the backup (and don't 
forget to restart cups).
