I have installed the latest kernel from the Lucid repositories and am
still having sound issues under windows I think (I will need to double
check this). Booting from a Lucid live cd produces sound under Win 7,
but if I install the Lucid kernel into Karmic I don't get sound in Win 7
(I will double check this) the same as I don't using the native karmic
kernels. If I verify that I am not getting sound what should I look at
to determine why?
More importantly after installing the Lucid kernel into Karmic I had the
following problems:
1). The system would not hotplug a flash disk when the Lucid kernel
was the active kernel (I will need to check that it is still active
under the standard karmic kernels). I haven't checked as yet whether
hotplugging is active under the Lucid live cd.
2). When I installed the Lucid kernel into karmic I also updated the
nvidia proprietary video driver and dkms. Installing this driver and
dkms disabled the nvidia driver in all kernels, and even though dkms
said the driver was installed in the dkms tree I had to issue
dpkg-reconfigure -plow nvidia-current in all kernels to get the nvidia
driver active again. Why was this necessary?

regards,
Steve
