Nautilus hijacking mounting

You may get better answers if you ask on the Ubuntu-users list because 
the Gnome part is the trouble maker. And is it really nautilus? I 
thought it is the gnome volume manager. But what do I know? I don't have 
Gnome installed on any of my machines.
