Been there, done that years ago when laptops became more reliable than
desktops. A laptop got keyboard & monitor from desktop. All the
external drives & accessories continue to be used without a desktop.

If I was a gamer, if I had some need for performance that cost $700 in a
desktop & $2100 in a laptop, my choice would be desktop.

My oldest lappy, from 2005, can do all I need plus it plays DVDs
stretched on external monitor to 24.5" @ 1920 X 1200.

I do not miss noise, heat & extra electric use of a desktop.
Maybe if I wanted to decrypt a blue-ray DVD while watching, more compute
capability would be needed? All my DVDs are decrypted to HDD, then
played later, so I have not wanted more computer.

The other great hardware change here was quitting ink jet printers. A
Samsung CL315 laser printer just keeps printing. This is my second year
without buying any printer supplies.
