but to make this permanent.....
kdesudo kate /etc/default/grub
modify these lines to...
#GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true
note you can also set timeout in secs on
GRUB_TIMEOUT=10
save, exit; at terminal
sudo update-grub
