Hello kubuntu users.
I just upgraded my laptop (acer aspire 3050, with no issues at all by the way) from kubuntu 8.10 to 9.10 and I'm trying to input japanese, just as I used to in 8.10 using scim/skim and anthy. I am a fairly new linux/kubuntu user, and the problem is that now in 9.10 I cannot even find skim or anthy in kpackagekit even when searching by name, filename or description. I have read all the online guides to doing this for earlier versions of ubuntu and kubuntu, I have tried everything, but the konsole or kpackagekit just tell me that no package by the name of 'whatever the guides tell me to download/install' exists.
Initially I tried to install the system in japanese by selecting japanese in the language field of the installer, so I would not have any problem, but to my surprise, when kubuntu started it was in english! Did I do something
wrong?
I also noticed that there is a widget called kimpanel, described as an input method panel for oriental languages, but I really don't have the slightest idea of how to use it, or if it will do what I'm trying to do.
Am I doing something wrong? Please help me out!
Sincerely.
Edgar Arias.
