After installation: cannot get into the system, because of password/ login problems.

Dear everybody

Tonight, I installed Kubuntu netbook remix at my Asus 1001HA. However,
I do not manage to access the system. The login/ password combination
I have in mind, does not work. The only part of the system I do manage
to reach is the recovery mode menu - e.g. the root prompt.
