Can't share audio in ALSA

It's a shame that you can't get pulse working. I just plugged in a USB
webcam, the mike was correctly identified, on the fly and I could switch
to it to test, also on the fly. No rebooting, no configuration, no nadda
zip. Just works. Why KDE chose to go the way they have with audio blows
my mind. 

Since I suspected such, what I did was install Ubuntu / Gnome lucid
first. I logged into Gnome and tested my audio. ~Worked perfectly~. THEN
I installed the KDE desktop. Sound still working. I went into several
apps, like xine, and made sure that they addressed pulse. Now they all
work perfectly. I'm as happy as a clam, for the first time in a long
time. When an app like firefox grabs that internal 4.1 audio I can play
another file through the USB stereo headset, at the same time. I do not
use an external mike to my sound card, so I have all apps needing
microphone input using the boom mike on my USB headset. No feedback
worries and Skype sees it just fine. I didn't have to do anything, is my
point. I've edited .asound files until I turned blue in the face for a
long time. Now, I don't. I bitched and moaned about pulse for a long
time, too. Now, I don't. Jus' my two cents, for the record, that KDE
made a huge mistake in hammering pulse, now that it is mature. Ric
