I was waiting a while to see if an expert would answer your question, but
nobody has, so I'll have a go:-
You should find that you already have iptables installed. This is the
application that runs on Linux and is configured by yourself to implement a
firewall. Personally I've always found it more or less impossible to
understand how to configure it from the command line, although others seem to
be able to do it.
The best way IMHO I have so far seen to set up a firewall is to use the script
idea I found here:-
http://www.linuxhelp.net/guides/iptables/
I have played with this a little and found it to be the easiest way for me to
understand how it works, how to modify it and most importantly how to kill it
by logging in at the console instead of via ssh if I need to.
